Eagle Festival

The festival covers Kazakh cultural activities, eagle hunting competitions, meeting ups with famous eagle hunters. Experience the way of life of the nomads, learn about their unique culture and join them in the festivities of the annual Eagle Festival in Ulgii. Exploring untouched beautiful nature, experience off-road driving, horse riding, observing wild animals and many other activities.

Itinerary

Arrival in Chinggis Khaan International Airport and take a domestic flight to Ulgii town. Ulgii is the center of Bayan-Ulgii province where 90% of the population is Kazakhs who have their own language and unique culture. Meet our local drivers with vehicles, then visit the local museums and local market (Kazakh Bazaar) . Overnight in guest Yurt (Ger) near Kazakh family. Enjoy Kazakh hospitality and spend the evening together, learning about their culture.

Eagle Hunters from around the region gather together to show off their birds, which weigh 12-15 pounds and have a wingspan of up to eight feet. The festivities start with a parade of the hunters on horseback and then a plethora of shows and competitions take place – birds will be judged on their speed and agility and the winners will be announced. During the festival, you also see traditional Kazakh Games. Have lunch at the festival site, the traditional specialty. In the evening enjoy a performance of traditional Kazakh songs and music and stay at a local ger camp.

Flight back to Ulaanbaatar. We drive to Hustai National Park, which is located in Central Mongolia, it is home to the rare and endangered Przewalski’s horses - the only species of wild horses in the world - as well as many other internationally - important plants and animals. We have the possibility of riding a horse and observing other wild animals. Overnight in a ger camp.

Today we drive to the Elsen tasarkhai which is a part of the Mongol Els sand dunes, totally 80 km long in the south of the Khogno Khan National Park. Elsen Tasarkhai offers a unique combination of stunning sand dunes, lush greenery, and picturesque mountains, creating a diverse and captivating landscape. You can ride a camel with a beautiful panorama view. We stay at a local nomad family homestay. 

Early in the morning drive to Ulaanbaatar city and refresh in the hotel room. In the evening enjoy a traditional music and dance performance in the Tumen Ekh Ensemble.

Pick up from the hotel and transfer to the airport. Thank you for the visit and getting to know the Mongolian culture.
